Research agenda Conceptualisation Platform |
MOSAICA is not merely a Web portal for interactive access and presentation of cultural heritage but also and primarily a Conceptualisation platform: at the heart of MOSAICA are the technological utilities that really transform MOSAICA from merely a gateway to cultural heritage into a framework for the ontology-based, interactive conceptualisation of cultural resources.
These online utilities include: - Online semantic annotator. This utility enables users to conceptually model semantic relations between complex and diversified cultural objects and resources. It will provide (1) the facility for free-text annotation allowing users to comment and recommend individual cultural objects, or to instruct other visitors regarding how to use them, as well as (2) the full integration of MOSAICA ontology enabling users to associate cultural objects with relevant ontological concepts and semantic relations.
- Online ontology editor. This utility empowers users with the user-friendly means to further develop their own conceptual models, and dynamically enrich and extend MOSAICA ontology with their own semantics. It will provide two complementary interfaces: (1) for regular users and domain experts a simple interface for editing N-Triple axioms will be provided, while (2) for ontology engineers a full-fledged OWL editor will be integrated.
- Virtual Expedition maker. This is actually a set of complementary online utilities that guide users how to design their own Virtual Expeditions, record them, and enhance them with educational instructions and additional activities, such as treasure hunt, portfolio preparation, etc. The design instructions for Virtual Expeditions, and the corresponding utilities will be based on a comprehensive methodology for developing educational resources that will be researched and developed within the project’s lifetime.
